The above map shows the average lightning density in number of lightning strokes per square kilometer calculated from data obtained by the Observatory's Lightning Location Network. In preparing the map, some interpolation and smoothing of data have been carried out.
The number of lightning strokes and areas affected by lightning may vary from year to year. As the map is based only on data from the past few years, it does not represent the future trend.
