A new Satellite Imagery of Interest is now available at the Observatory's website. The imagery shows the recent eruption of Anak Krakatau Volcano in Indonesia.

The Anak Krakatau volcano, located at around 160 kilometres west of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, erupted in the evening of 22 December 2018. The volcanic eruptions triggered tsunamis along the coastal regions of the Sunda Strait. The animation of multi-channel composite satellite imageries captured the eruptions and showed a plume of volcanic ash spreading to the west from the volcano. (The imageries were captured by Himawari-8 satellite of Japan Meteorological Agency)
