The Hong Kong Observatory arranges a one-week familiarization visit to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) annually. This year, a delegation led by Dr Tam Cheuk-ming, Senior Scientific Officer, visited the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) of CMA at Beijing and the Meteorological Bureau of Hainan from 21 to 27 January 2007.
The delegation was well received by Mr Yu Jixin, Director-General of Department of International Cooperation, CMA. Through many technical seminars, the delegation exchanged the latest development of both meteorological services on daily forecast operations, public weather services and applications of numerical weather prediction models, etc... The delegation was also invited to join in NMC's daily nationwide weather conference.
After Beijing, the delegation visited the Meteorological Bureau of Hainan and was briefed by their Deputy Director-General, Mr Xu Youguang. The delegation toured a new Doppler weather radar station site at Haikou and the provincial meteorological centres at Sanya and Qionghai.
