The Hong Kong Observatory has just become a caring organisation under the "Caring Organisation 2005/06" scheme. This is an award scheme organised by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service which aims to recognize the outstanding achievements of government departments, statutory organisations, professional bodies, education institutes, etc for their enthusiasm in caring the community and commitment in corporate citizenship. The award to Hong Kong Observatory is in recognition of its enduring efforts in supporting employee volunteering through the HKO Volunteers, providing a family-friendly environment for employees through a series of family-oriented policies and activities, and encouraging donations in cash or in kind to social service organisations.
