Cooperation with Meteorological Authorities in Guangdong and Macau
On 18 February 2009, Mr. LAM Chiu-ying (Director), Mr. WAI Hon-gor, (Assistant Director) and several Senior Scientific Officers of the Hong Kong Observatory attended an annual Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Meteorological Cooperation Meeting in Macau with representatives of the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau and the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau.  The annual cooperation meeting is hosted by the three parties on a rotary basis and it was convened for the 14th time this year. The meeting discussed cooperation on meteorological monitoring and services, data sharing, forecasting techniques and climate change assessment, etc., in the Pearl River Delta region and its neighbouring areas.  The meeting established the direction for future development achieving synergy through the cooperation.  The cooperation meeting was followed by the 23rd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Seminar on Meteorological Science and Technology.  In the 2-day seminar, experiences and techniques on monitoring and forecasting tropical cyclones, severe weather and extreme temperatures were exchanged.  The meeting and the seminar have been beneficial to all three meteorological services in respect of the development in both technological and operational aspects.
