The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau Ng Wai-lan, JP, visited the Hong Kong Observatory on 24 February 2009. Mrs Lau was briefed by the Director, Mr Lam Chiu-ying on the core business of the Observatory, including public and aviation weather services, radiation monitoring, climate, seismology and time service. The tour ended with a visit to the Observatory's TV Studio, where Mrs Lau was given a taste of the work of a TV weather presenter. While Mrs Lau was all praise for the achievements of the Observatory, she emphasized that these would not have been possible without the dedicated effort of all staff. She was also impressed by the "Happy Business" programme of the Observatory which aims at bringing work-life balance for its staff.
