Hong Kong Observatory co-organised
the sixth Marine Safety Promotion Day
25 July 2005

On 25 June 2005, the Hong Kong Fishery Alliance together with the Hong Kong Observatory and various government departments organized the sixth Marine Safety Promotion Day in the Avenue of Stars. The event aims to promote the awareness on marine safety and precautionary measures to the marine community.

Marked by traditional dragon and lion dances as prologue, the event ran down with rich contents including a demonstration show of a variety of fishing vessels and cruise liners, first aid demonstrations and an air-sea rescue drill. An exhibition booth was specifically set up by the Observatory to facilitate the promotion of its marine forecast and warning services.

The Observatory has been maintaining close ties with the fishery community with a view to better understand and meet their needs for weather information. The exhibition booth of the Observatory was well received by fishemen and members of the public. The opportunity was also taken to introduce the newly added marine weather information in the Observatory Dial-a-Weather System.

Dr M C Wong, Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory (middle), gave support to the Observatory exhibition booth in the Avenue of Stars on the Marine Safety Promotion Day.
