HKO Side Lights Anecdotes of "Solar Cart Race"
The 5th 'Solar Cart Race'

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) participated in the 5th "Solar Cart Race" organized by the Friends of the Earth held at the Victoria Park on January 16. It was the first time HKO joined such activity. HKO won the Charity Gold Award with its cart - the "Solar Wind".

Besides supporting environmental protection, joining the event provided a chance for HKO staff to enhance their sense of belonging and have fun together. The Director, Mr Chiu-ying Lam, not only greatly supported the idea but also appeared in person to give encouragement to the team. During the race, HKO staff competed enthusiastically and there were several interesting episodes worth mentioning. Here's some light-hearted moments for sharing:

Blessed are the kind hearted - During the test of our cart in the practice ring, a cart from another team lost control and hit two of our drivers. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

Reliable performance - Although "Solar Wind" was not the fastest cart, it was undoubtedly the most reliable. Despite umpteen bumps during the race, "Solar Wind" successfully completed the whole course without a single failure, as reliable as HKO staff.

Tranquillity in a world of chaos - With tens of carts crisscrossing each other resulting in occasional collisions, our drivers managed to keep their eyes on the course and concentrated on reaching the destination safely. This was the best way, wasn't it?

Marvellous supporting team - Last but not least, a few words on the supporting team. HKO's team had three "No. 1s", viz. engaged the greatest number of supporters, made the loudest cheers and deployed the most numbers of gadgets. With excellent teamwork and a heart for the community, no wonder HKO won the Charity Gold Award.

Postscript:
Winning or losing the race is immaterial, the most important is to be able to raise funds for charity, support environmental protection and have fun. The dedication of the team on working for charity is what we cherish most.
