International expert on radiation, Professor Pan Zi-qiang, speaking on "The future development of nuclear energy in China"
Professor Pan Zi-qiang, an international expert on radiation, delivered a lecture on China's future development of nuclear energy at the Hong Kong Observatory on 15 September.  In addition to the colleagues of the Observatory, the lecture also attracted a number of officers from other government departments and organisations.

Professor Pan is the scientific advisor of the Observatory.  He is also the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the President of the China Radiation Protection Association and the Director of the Committee of Science and Technology of the China National Nuclear Corporation.  Professor Pan has been actively involved in research in radiation protection and technology of nuclear power generation for more than 40 years, and has a profound insight on the topics discussed in the lecture.  He shed light on the benefits of nuclear power generation in aspects such as resource utilisation, environmental protection and sustainable development.  Comparison with other energy sources was made using a variety of data.  Professor Pan also explained the current state of nuclear power generation in China and its development prospects in the future.  The lecture was very inspiring and greatly enhanced colleagues' understanding of nuclear energy development in China.
