Since the establishment of the Met Team of the Scout Association of Hong Kong in 2005, the team has organized various kinds of activities to promote meteorological education and provided meteorological service support to scouts in Hong Kong. To celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Met Team, the Scout Association of Hong Kong on 10 July organized "The Second Scout Met Day" at the hall of Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association and invited Mr. Edwin ST Lai, Acting Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, to inaugurate the ceremony. The activity was hosted by the Programme Branch of the Scout Association and co-organised by the Hong Kong Observatory, the Department of Applied Physics of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Community Weather Information Network with a view to enhancing meteorological knowledge among scouts and scout leaders.
The theme of the Scout Met Day is "Big changes in meteorology from ancient to modern times", and over 800 scouts participated in the activity. Apart from game booths and exhibition on special topics in meteorology, there were also model-making activities and design competitions for game booths and meteorological instruments. To arouse participant's interest in meteorology, scouts also experienced the use of portable meteorological instruments to measure the environment and joined guided tours to the Observatory Headquarters to appreciate the work of the Observatory and operating principles of various meteorological instruments.
