At the invitation of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Nanjing, Dr Pan Chi-kin, Scientific Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory, gave lectures in a course organized by RTC Nanjing in late June 2010. The main theme focused on weather information services and the use of information technology in meteorology.
There were more than 20 trainees coming from ten countries, including Egypt, Cuba and Ecuador. The course material drew enthusiastic responses and promoted exchange of experience among the participants, with particular interest on aspects such as how to effectively handle information related to severe weather.
Mr. Wang Caifang, Executive Deputy Director of RTC Nanjing, praised the work of the Observatory in weather services and her contribution towards capacity building among the developing countries, enabling meteorological personnel from these countries to acquire relevant knowledge through similar courses.
