Strengthening Meteorological Cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen
Mr. C.M. Shun, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, visited Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau on 16 September 2011 to discuss strengthening of meteorological cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. During the visit, Ms. Wang Yanqing, Director-General of Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau, presented a letter of appreciation to Mr. Shun for the assistance and support offered by the Observatory during the 2011 Summer Universiade.

In-depth discussions were made on matters including the exchange of warning messages and meteorological observations, development of forecast techniques and systems, mutual visit and training of personnel, etc. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation by building on existing foundation, and to foster further development of meteorological services for Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Thereafter, organized by Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau, Mr. Shun also paid a visit to the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and its supercomputer centre under construction. Opportunities for future collaboration on numerical weather prediction were discussed.
