Public considers 90% of Observatory's typhoon forecasts accurate
In the latest public survey conducted in October this year, 91.7% of the respondents considered the forecasts and warnings on typhoons "accurate" or "somewhat accurate". This is higher than that in the October survey in 2008 by more than 10 percents, and the highest since October 2005. Also, 87.8% of the respondents considered the forecasts and warnings on rainstorms "accurate" or "somewhat accurate", also higher than that in the October survey last year by more than 10 percents.
Regarding the overall service provided by the Observatory, respondents gave an average score of 7.8 (out of 10), comparable to that of the last survey carried out in April 2009.
The Hong Kong Observatory commissions an independent consultant to conduct public opinion surveys twice a year to gauge the public perception of the accuracy of weather forecasts and warnings and the level of public satisfaction with its overall service.
