Hong Kong Observatory officer joined the Typhoon Committee expert team

At the invitation of the ESCAP/World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Typhoon Committee, Dr Tsz-cheung Lee, Acting Senior Scientific Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory, joined the Committees expert team on the assessment of the impacts of climate change on the tropical cyclone frequency and intensity in 2009.  Other members of the expert team included Dr Woo-jin Lee (APEC Climate Center), Dr Tetsuo Nakazawa (Meteorological Research Institute, Japan Meteorological Agency), Mr James C. Weyman (National Weather Services, NOAA) and Dr Ming Ying (Shanghai Typhoon Institute, China Meteorological Administration).  Mr Tin-ngai Tong from Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, Macao, China, was the coordinator of the expert team.

The Expert Team conducted a series of literature review and assessment work and met in Macao, China during 14-15 December 2009 to discuss the findings and assessments.  An assessment report which documented the findings had since been prepared and would be published by the Committee for the reference of decision makers and the general public.

The ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee is an intergovernmental body under the auspices of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).  Currently, it is composed of 14 Members in the Asia Pacific area including Hong Kong, China.
