Renowned Climate Scientist
Professor Lau Ngar-cheung visited the Observatory

    The scientific advisor of the Hong Kong Observatory, Professor Lau Ngar-cheung, visited the Observatory on 5 January 2010 and delivered a lecture on impacts of El NiãÄ on the Asian monsoon.  Observatory colleagues also took the opportunity to discuss with Professor Lau on the future development of climate related research.  Colleagues of the Observatory benefited greatly from his visit.

    Professor Lau also gave a public talk on the topic of "Climate Change in the China Region" at the Hong Kong Science Museum on 9 January 2010 and shared his knowledge on the scientific basis of climate change with the public.  There was active participation from the audience and the lecture ended with a lively discussion.

    Professor Lau is a renowned climate scientist. He is the lead scientist of the Climate Diagnostics Project at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and a Professor at Princeton University. His main research interests include atmospheric general circulation, tropical circulation systems, large-scale air-sea interaction, high-resolution numerical models, etc.
