A new series of "Liberal Studies" articles under the "Science in the Public Service" Campaign

The "Science in the Public Service" Campaign and the Hong Kong Economic Times cooperate in the publication of a series of articles which introduce how government bureaux, departments and collaborating organizations use science and technology to serve the public. The Hong Kong Economic Times publishes the articles on its Liberal Studies section every Monday (excluding holiday) since 5 May 2008.

Covering a wide range of topics, the articles are produced after interviews with experts or professionals from government departments or famous organizations. Several very interesting articles have so far been published. They include: (1.) 治水疏洪 基建为民 by the Drainage Services Department, (2.) 防·治害虫 by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, (3.) 遗传学研究 by the Department of Health, (4.) 管帹专业 by The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, (5.) 辐射 by the Hong Kong Observatory, (6.) 水管测漏 by the Water Supplies Department, and (7.) 第3.5代流动闭路电视(3.5G Mobile CCTV)by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department. Each article is followed by a discussion column to stimulate students' thinking.

With the permission of the Hong Kong Economic Times, all the articles published so far can also be found in the "Science in the Public Service" web page under http://www.science.gov.hk/eng/liberal-studies-e.htm .

The "Science in the Public Service" Campaign was launched in 2006. It is a joint campaign by government bureaux, departments and collaborating organizations to let people know more about their scientific achievements and the application of science and technology in providing services.
